management, and as is seen from the above results, the
product is of the highest quality and is not affected by
the high stunning current". That was a workshop on animal
welfare in Brussels given by Alastair Mews who was then the
head of the Farm Animals Department at the RSPCA.

MS. STEEL: In fact, you have mentioned the RSPCA, perhaps you
could turn to -- it is a bit of a paper chase -- the
Defendants' original list of documents, document No. 105
which will be in the blue files at the top.
       A. Yes.

  Q. If you turn to page 10 of that document?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Can you just read out any parts which you feel are
important in there, that is the -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: This has been read before.

MS. STEEL: "The RSPCA slaughter of food Animals".

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, I know we have been through it, if only
because I have marked it and I purposely have not marked
things until my attention has been drawn to them in the
       evidence.

THE WITNESS: Well, I think that just backs up really the
desirability of stun kill method, yes. It says: "The
RSPCA urges the remainder to do the same without delay",
really backing up the previous .....

MS. STEEL: "The same" being stun kill?
       A. Yes, yes.

  Q. If you would not put the orange bundle away; we are likely
to be referring to that again. Do you have any comment to
make about Sun Valley not having an easily visible ammeter
       on the slaughter bath?
       A. Yes, I think that is -- it is obviously desirable to be
able to check on it and this was not the case,
I understand, so that certainly was to the detriment of
       welfare of the birds, yes.

  Q. If you have tab H, page 16?
       A. Where it says: "Stunners should be fitted with easily
visible ammeters so that it is possible to check that birds
are receiving the correct amount of current"? Yes.

  Q. These are the Codes of Practice?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am sorry?
       A. It is page 16.

MS. STEEL: It is the line opposite the "3" of 317.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes, thank you. It is just that it helps me
if I am referred to where on the page, otherwise I have to
read the whole page to get three lines, that is all.
