Day 108 - 27 Mar 95 - Page 32

       A. No, I did not.

MR. MORRIS: It was the breed type.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Hold on, Mr. Morris.

THE WITNESS: I said they were Ross or Cobb. They were the
       typical broiler strain.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Right. I am going to put the statutory
instrument behind the brochure which, in turn, I will put
at the back of that same section.

  MS. STEEL: Right.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, is that the only one?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I think -- I hope -- Mr. Riley brought back
half a dozen copies. You have one; if you had another,
there is one for the witness box, another one for me. Do
you mind, Mr. Riley, make three more, please?

       You had asked Mrs. Druce about buying the day old chicks;
she said they were livelier and about 25 per cent lighter
       and then ------

MS. STEEL (To the witness): That was when they were at seven
       weeks?
       A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Then I interrupted to see if the breed could
       be more specifically identified.

MS. STEEL: Were there any other observations that you made, the
       differences between -----
       A. Yes, two or three of them perched at quite an early
age, at about four weeks, quite at a fair height like that,
and they were just generally inquisitive and lively.

  Q. Did any of them suffer from hock burns or other ------
       A. No, because they had a fair amount of space and
adequate environment/index.html">litter and they did not, no. They were on the
move far more than any normal broiler chicken.

  Q. I have a video in court. I had not actually disclosed it.
I am not sure whether you wanted to -----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is this?

  MS. STEEL: Of these chickens.

THE WITNESS: It is the recording we made. We made it into a
video and it shows the chickens that I am talking about at
       the moment.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long does it take?
       A. Well, the whole thing is 15 minutes but it would not be
       necessary to see it all.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is not the best thing, Mr. Rampton, is if I
