Day 106 - 23 Mar 95 - Page 30

circumstances recombine. It is arguable that if you were
looking for organophospherous residues within the animal,
the last place you would look, and the least successful
place of looking, is renal fat. Ergo, there is no
evidence, quote, but a different interpretation of this
MAVIS report is that, possibly, there is no evidence
because they are not looking for it, at least not looking
       for it successfully.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: But what I understood you to do about 20
minutes ago was make a positive assertion ---
       A. Indeed.

  Q. -- that measurable quantities had been found ---
       A. That is the case.

  Q. -- in meat prepared for humans. So, when you are turning
your mind to what papers you need to support that, that is
what I want you to be looking at. It is a completely
different argument that because they have not been found
does not mean to say they are not there.
       A. Quite.

  Q. What I am looking for is, or may well at the end of the
case be looking for, is the basis upon which you assert
that they have been found; do you understand?
       A. Yes.

  Q. If there are any papers you know of which go further and
suggest that such antibiotic residues, growth promoting
hormone drug residues, and the point you are specifically
on at the moment, pesticide residues can damage the health
of people on a meat based diet, that also would be
       important.
       A. My Lord, you appreciate I ------

  Q.   It is not just a question of the presence of the residues;
it is a question of whether such residues as have been
found, if any, can damage human health.
       A. Please appreciate that I claim no expertise in terms of
       hormonal -----

  Q. That may be. It may be, for all I know, your evidence your
evidence only relates to the first point, that residues
have been found and that you do not consider yourself
qualified to give evidence as to whether they can damage
human health. But, if you do purport to give evidence on
the second question, not just the existence of residues,
but the possibility of damage to human health, then I would
like you to help Mr. Morris and Ms. Steel by finding any
publication which you think supports it.

MS. STEEL: On the second point, that was actually in the
statement in the first place about if they were found it
would be bad for human health.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Fair enough.

MS. STEEL: Also, that is what Mr. Kenny said on day 100, page
54, line 17; pesticide residues would concern him because
