Day 103 - 14 Mar 95 - Page 07
Q. But if you left them they would not be able to reproduce,
would they?
A. I think they probably would actually.

Q. If that is so why do you need to restrict the feed for the
breeders?
A. Because you get better performance.

Q. So in the broilers, some of them, you might get a few being
able to breed, but most of them would not be able to?
A. Yes, but we have not put that to the test.

Q. But that is the reality, is it not?
A. If you have not put it to the test you cannot say
whether it is reality.

Q. Are the breeders healthy? They are not starving?
A. Breeders are very healthy.

Q. They are not starving to death?
A. They are not starving to death.

Q. Would you say they are hungry?
A. They are hungry, yes.

Q. You cannot have it both ways, can you? Either you are
grossly over feeding broilers or you are grossly under
feeding the breeders, or it is a mixture of both?
A. They are designed for different purposes. They are fed
different rations.

Q. One is the offspring of another so they are not going to be
that different?
A. No.

Q. That is correct?
A. That is correct.

Q. Would you agree that people regularly exposed to ammonia no
longer notice the smell?
A. I honestly do not know whether that is true or not.
Ammonia is a pretty pungent gas, so most people are pretty
capable of detecting it.

MS. STEEL: We handed in some documents last week and I do not
know where this has been put.

MR. MORRIS: The Clare Druce documents.

MS. STEEL: The Health and Safety Hazards in the Poultry
Industry.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did that go in your latest bundle?

MS. STEEL: It did, but I do not know what number it went at.

MR. RAMPTON: 15, my Lord.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you know where it went, Mr. Rampton?
