Day 078 - 26 Jan 95 - Page 33

       A. Pink XVI, yes, sir.

  Q. Tab 9. You have just got one sheet in longhand there.

MR. MORRIS: I am sorry, just while we are on that, we might as
well have a look at it.
       A. The one on World Wildlife Fund, Canada, paper?

  MS. STEEL: Page 86.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: There is a sheet in longhand with "UK" in the
top left-hand corner and "86" in the bottom right-hand
       corner.

THE WITNESS: I have found it.

MR. MORRIS: Two-thirds down the page it says -- this was the
crucial paragraph -- "In the past 12 months in order to be
able to tender for intervention meat, McKey's have
purchased four consignments of meat from Brazil each of
twenty tonnes." So did you ever get access to the
       intervention meat in the end?
       A. No, we did not. We also did not -- the last, as I said
yesterday, the last consignment of this balance sheet beef,
we had to make a refund because the licence was revoked and
we could not use it as balance sheet meat and we had to pay
       full commercial value for it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: That was the fifth one?

  MR. MORRIS: The fifth consignment.
       A. Was it the fifth? May I ask a question, sir?

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.
       A. From memory, is that letter in the same handwriting as
the one I have just handed back?

MR. MORRIS: Yes. They are all in the same handwriting.
       A. I am glad that it states what I said all along, that we
had about 80 tonnes of balance sheet beef.

  Q. But this was before the fifth consignment, the last
       consignment was after April 1984?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If this was written sometime towards the end
of April, or thereabouts, 1983, the fifth consignment ----

  MR. MORRIS: 1984.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: 1984, thank you, the fifth consignment would
       not have come yet?
       A. No, it would not, sir.

MR. MORRIS: Were you aware that based on assurances from George
Cohon, Prince Philip withdrew from the dispute with
McDonald's. Were you told about that?
       A. No, it is not my business.

  Q. Did you ever see a copy of his letter, 27th June 1983, from
       Prince Philip to George Cohon?
