Day 076 - 18 Jan 95 - Page 30

Q. This letter. It was signed by Dr. Taylor, yes?
A. Well, no. He, in fact, had it typed and everything
afterwards. I did a first draft.

Q. Right. Can you just summarise the situation, what
happened?
A. Well, they did raise quite a bit of money and made
McDonald's aware of it. The separate action group for
McDonald's is still operating, as far as I know. I dropped
off it because I felt that Royal Avenue were better
equipped to work on that one because I was on the other
action group dealing with quite separate issues further
down the Kings Road.

Q. It says here: "Wellington Square, Mitre House, Royal
Avenue and Royal Avenue House Residents Associations are
making a direct appeal to their residents"?
A. Right.

Q. It says in the letter that funds will be set up to get
legal advice. Was the legal advice sought, do you
remember?
A. I can only go on hearsay in a sense that I dropped off
the committee by then.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Does Dr. David Thomas still live at No. 31?
A. Yes, sir.

Q. And Miss Wells at 10?
A. Yes, Miss Wells is very ill at the moment.

Q. And Miss Robson at 4?
A. Yes, she is still there. They are all the people
I asked for their opinion at the street party, sir.

Q. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Sorry, just very quickly to go back to 791 -- sorry
to dodge about -- it says from the Smith Street Residents
Association; it talks about the environment/index.html">litter being "appalling and
disgusting ... and for the most part the environment/index.html">litter is caused
by discarded McDonald's wrappers ... There now seems to be
no environment/index.html">litter patrol, and one has not been in evidence for some
time. Some six months ago we complained to the Manager,
Mr. Siddique, but did not receive the courtesy of a reply,
let alone any action".

Do you know about that last part, about the Residents
Association complaining to Mr. Siddique?
A. I knew Alison was complaining but I did not know that
she had had no reply.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Did you note the answer at 28:42, because
you were distracted from something else?

MS. STEEL: The street party you referred to, was that the one
you were talking about that happened last week?
A. Yes.
