Day 076 - 18 Jan 95 - Page 13

Q. Has that come up from the Royal Hospital Wards Association
as well, that particular -----
A. Among other things, yes.

Q. So in terms of the environment/index.html">litter which you have seen in the area,
the photographs you have shown, are they typical of environment/index.html">litter
on the streets -- not the bags outside the store -- is that
typical or untypical of the streets that we are concerned
with around the store?
A. Well, I would say it was typical, but it is not all the
time. Obviously, I only photograph it when it looks
particularly unsightly. I would not say it is the worst
case but it is the worst case when I happened to have my
camera with me.

Q. Actually, I cannot remember the photographs because I only
looked at them briefly. Was there something where it was
down the side of a car?
A. Yes, that was the night photograph, No. 6, and on the
pavement.

Q. You said something about environment/index.html">litter in basements, I think?
A. Yes.

Q. Is that your basement or in other places?
A. It is in everybody's basement, yes. That is a problem,
of course, because most of us keep our basements locked so
that nobody could get to clear it if there was a environment/index.html">litter
patrol.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: They are locked and, presumably, you would
not anyone just wandering down there even if they were not
locked?
A. That is right, sir.

Q. You would like some warning that someone was going to come
in or, preferably, ask your permission, presumably?
A. One of our residents did, in fact, make a big issue
that and said she did not want people wandering into her
area way. Most of us has been burgled through the front
area way.

MR. MORRIS: I am trying to get an idea of the environment/index.html">litter, a picture
of the environment/index.html">litter, that may be generally around, the levels of
environment/index.html">litter and where it is as you walk around those streets?
A. Well, I did a count just in Smith Street, just one side
of the street, on I think it was last Sunday and there were
12 items identifiably McDonald's.

Q. What time of day was that?
A. That was in roughly early evening, it was just getting
dark.

Q. What is that, 5 o'clock or something like that?
A. Yes.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Give me an idea about that. Were they all in
one immediate area or is it, for instance, two, three, four
inconsiderate people in a car who have just sat there,
