     1        street south.  Wellington Square is a dead end.  You have
     2        to go around the Square.  You cannot get out of it.  Royal
     3        Avenue is also a semi-circle, so you have to come in from
     4        the south.  So, the reason that Smith Street suffers most
     5        is that we are the first clear street south.  If you were
     6        shopping in the Kings Road or eating at McDonald's, or
     7        eating at any of the restaurants around there and you did
     8        not want to go into a car park, you would park in Smith
     9        Street if you are going south.

    11   MS. STEEL:   Can I just clarify, the photographs with the empty
    12        streets or fairly empty, would they have been taken late on
    13        a Saturday or early on a Sunday before 10 p.m.?
    14        A.  Early on a Sunday.  I think it may have been before the
    15        Sunday law changed.  It was sometime in 1994.  I forget
    16        exactly when they changed.

    29        A.  Time, it is late at night; you can see it is after
    30        dark.  Again it must have been sometime at the end of last

    34        A.  It is virtually in front of my house; in fact, it is in
    35        front of my house.

    38        A.  No. 7 is the one of the French students eating their
    39        McDonald's outside in Royal Avenue.  Pigeons -----

    Q.   Outside McDonald's?
    42        A.  Outside McDonald's and outside McDonald's back door and
    43        pigeons are outside No. 2 Royal Avenue, I think it is,
    44        eating from the discarded packets.

    47        we are on it, what it shows there?
    48        A.  It just shows a party of I think they were French

    52        A.  Oh, it is all McDonald's environment/index.html">litter and pigeons are eating 
    53        from it.  There is a sign there which says:  "Do not feed
    54        the pigeons.  They make the pavement slippery and they
    55        spread disease".  The Council had put that up.

    58        A.  Yes, they had to put it up because so many people were
    59        feeding the pigeons.
