MR. JUSTICE BELL: They are asked to contact a London ----

MS. STEEL: It is a Newsletter that is covering the whole of the
       world anyway?
       A. OK.

  Q. If we turn to page 734 there is a report on the United
       Kingdom?
       A. Yes.

  Q. The third paragraph is about waste shortening. It
says: "Waste shortening has always been a problem, with the
handling of the drums, the storage, and the pickup from a
health and safety point of view. A system is being tested
that could solve all of the problems in one fell swoop".
It then goes into the details of that system. Then at the
end of that paragraph it says: "The resulting loads will
be collected from the DC" --- is that distribution centre?
       A. Right.

  Q. -- "by McDonald's shortening supplier who will process the
waste oil for animal feed stock etc. The financial return
should prove significantly higher2. So, it appears that
you get paid for getting the waste oil recycled?
       A. It appears we do now.

  Q. It says "significantly higher"?
       A. Well, higher than what?

  Q. It does not say: "We will get some financial return for
       this".
       A. I am sorry, I cannot answer your questions. I have
told you, I am not involved in this directly, and I cannot
answer your question. It says "the financial return should
prove significantly higher", higher than what, I do not
       know.

  Q. Higher than what it had been previously?
       A. Presumably, I do not know.

  Q. I just wanted to ask some questions about environment/index.html">litter. If you
leave that bundle there because we may need it again?
Would you accept that a significant amount of McDonald's
packaging ends up being thrown down as environment/index.html">litter?
       A. An amount does -- how significant it is, I am not sure.

  Q. So do you think it is insignificant then?
       A. No, I think it will vary depending on where you are.
I can go to certain parts of the country and see
practically nothing; I can go to certain inner city areas
and see quite a lot, so it varies.

  Q. Litter is quite a problem, is it not?
       A. It is a problem that we recognise and it is one that we
       try to address, yes.

  Q. It can be a danger?
       A. Can it?
