Day 061 - 05 Dec 94 - Page 26

       A. I think so, yes.

  Q. Yes?
       A. I think I have the right page. They are all headed
"Suppliers and Purchasing", are they not?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mine is cut off.

THE WITNESS: What is the content on the page?

MR. MORRIS: It says: "Suppliers and Purchasing, Exports", yes?
       A. No, mine does not say "exports"; it reads "McDonald's
       UK Food and Packaging Suppliers".

  MS. STEEL: Page 26.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes. The photocopy is cut off like that, so
you may have something on yours which does not appear on --
I see the witness's bundle is cut off as well.

MR. MORRIS: If we just move on to -- has everyone found it?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have the document, the photocopy is ----

MR. MORRIS: I am sorry. If I can hand this page to the
witness? I will show it to Mr. Rampton first. He has the
       original.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, he is well supplied.

MR. MORRIS: I cannot remember what it says. Would you just
read out, "Exports from the McDonald's UK", yes?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And McDonald's UK have exported to a number of countries,
in fact, dozens of countries, yes, including Turkey?
       A. McDonald's UK suppliers have, yes.

  Q. Yes, have exported McDonald's products to Turkey; is that
       correct?
       A. Yes.

  Q. So what is the problem then with exporting to Turkey; there
is no problem at all, is there?
       A. No. You did not listen to what I said earlier. I told
you earlier that in the case of foam packaging, there was
already a supplier in place and, as there was one in place,
it made more economic sense to use him, to use that
supplier that was in place. In the case of where there is
not a supplier in place, then you have to export, you have
no option, or import in this case into Turkey.

  Q. OK. So, economic matters take preference over
       environmental concerns?
       A. Well, I said a little more than that. I said economic
matters and availability of a supplier being in place; if
there was not one there, you are hardly going to build £10
million factory to supply 20 or 30 restaurants. In this
case there was a foam packaging supplier there and it made
       sense to use them.
