await to hear from you as to the additional copy that would
be required to show this fact on each place mat"?
       A. "The additional copy", I would think it was a piece of
artwork they were waiting for, but I do not know.

  Q. Yes, but "to show this fact"?
       A. What fact?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: What is being suggested to you is that it
looks as if something was being put on place mats to show
that they were 100 per cent recycled paper. It is
suggested the inference is that that had to be put on
because they were not 100 per cent recycled before. Can
you help in relation to that?
       A. No, I cannot. I do not know what copy they were
       talking about.

  MS. STEEL: So?
       A. It could have been as Ms. Steel suggested, it could
have been a number of other things; I really do not know.

MS. STEEL: You did say in your statement in actual fact that
since July 1991 the place mats have been made from 100 per
       cent recycled paper?
       A. Yes, I did.

  Q. So that would be in agreement with what I am putting to
       you?
       A. Certainly at the time I was given the facts, that was
       correct.

  Q. You do not have any information to suggest that 100 per
cent recycled paper was being used before then or recycled?
       A. No.

  Q. You have not information to suggest that recycled paper was
       being used before then?
       A. No, I have not.

  Q. These three documents, I believe, are the sum total of the
documents that have been supplied in relation to -- in
fact, this one is 1991 anyway -- 1989 and 1990?
       A. That is what I am told, yes.

  Q. The recycled content of your packaging?
       A. From McDonald's UK, yes.

  Q. So who keeps the records of when recycled paper was
introduced, all the assertions that you have made about
1981 and dates prior to 1989?
       A. It clearly was not recorded.

  Q. It was not?
       A. I do not think there was any requirement to record it,
       to be honest with you.

  Q. Right. So how would anyone know when the recycled content
       was introduced?
       A. Only because Paul Edwards has been with McDonald's for
15 years. He dealt -- he has dealt with the Alex Popper
