"Is it", and then if he says "yes", they we are; if he
says "no", you can suggest that he is wrong for some given
       reason.

MR. MORRIS: (To the witness) The ITC is now looking at this
       section, is it not?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And they have taken, in fact, submissions from a number of
       different organisations?
       A. Yes.

  Q. And, in fact, they have made their own proposals for
       amending the section?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Are you aware of a pamphlet from the National Food
       Alliance, Responsible Food Advertising?
       A. I am.

  Q. Are you aware that they have made proposals for changes in
       that section?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Would it be fair to say that those proposals from the
National Food Alliance represent a considerable body of
       concern, public concern?
       A. I think that would be overstating it.

  Q. In what way?
       A. I think they reflect the views of the people who have
expressed those views. I do not believe that they are
widespread views, but they are views that they are
perfectly entitled to express, and they have been taken
       seriously.

  Q. Are you aware that, at the front of that pamphlet, the
people who are backing those changes include: The
Association of Community Health Councils for England and
Wales, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, British
Dental Association, British Dietetic Association, British
Heart Foundation, Children's Society, the Coronary
Prevention Group, Institute of Child Health, Institute of
Environmental Health Officers, Institute of Trading
       Standards Administration, National Children's Home,
National Confederation of Parent Teachers Associations,
National Farmers Union, National Federation of Consumer
Groups, Trades Union Congress, Women's Royal Voluntary
Service, World Council Research Funds; were you aware that
those were some of the organisations?
       A. I am aware that those organisations are listed as
supporting the broad aims of the particular organisation.
I doubt very much whether they have all backed every single
recommendation. I doubt if the specific proposals on
advertising were looked at by the Trades Union Congress,
for example. But they back the broad objectives of the
National Food Alliance, and that is a useful supporting
       piece of information.

  Q. If it was found -- no doubt we will hear evidence later --
