Day 047 - 07 Nov 94 - Page 11
A. Yes.

Q. Did you have a television in your house?
A. Yes.

Q. When did ITV start in this country?
A. 1956 or so.

Q. Did your children watch advertisements on television?
A. Not then. We worked abroad; we were in India for some
years, and they were born in India. We came back to
England at the end of 1962, the first time they had seen
television, when they were four and two, respectively. So,
yes, they watched television from then on.

Q. From then on, from four and two, on?
A. Yes.

Q. Was it a phenomenon in your house that, from time to time,
one or other or both of your children might say, "Daddy, I
want you to buy this, that, and the other that I have seen
on telly"?
A. Yes.

Q. How did you deal with that?
A. Sometimes one did and sometimes one did not.

Q. Moving forward a generation, do your grandchildren watch
television, or are they too little?
A. No. They do watch.

Q. Grandfathers are, traditionally, more susceptible than
fathers; perhaps you would agree?
A. Well, grandmothers are certainly more than mother's. I
am not sure about grandfathers.

Q. Do you suffer from the same kind of, shall I say, approach
by your grandchildren?
A. I would say that we enjoy the same kind of approach. I
do not think we suffer from it.

MR. RAMPTON: Yes. Thank you. Would you remain there please.
Mr. Miles?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: If you want to sit down at any stage, please
just pull the chair forward.

MS. STEEL: We would rather have----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: How long would you like?

MS. STEEL: 15 minutes?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I will come back after 11.25.
