Day 046 - 04 Nov 94 - Page 35

MR. MORRIS: This was a matter of great controversy.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, is that an assertion or a question?

MR. MORRIS: I think everyone is agreed.

MR. RAMPTON: No. I do not think everybody is agreed at all.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Try not to make statements, because it may or
may not be agreed, and if you say it to a witness who comes
into this case for a week and leaves it again, he may
assume that everyone in court agrees with what you say is
so, and he just does not know.

MR. MORRIS: I did think he said-----

MR. JUSTICE BELL: It is just not apropos of Mr. Green. It is
an easy thing to fall into. Just stick to the question.

MR. MORRIS: Just to explain, I do not think it is a big issue
in the case, but I think Mr. Green did recognise that it
       was controversial issue.

THE WITNESS: Yes. There was a question----

MR. MORRIS: So would you say that it was a great controversy?
       A. It was a controversy. To some people, it may have been
great; to other people it may not have been great.

  Q. When the Attorneys General contact McDonald's, do
       McDonald's take it seriously?
       A. Yes, they do.

  Q. I do not want to go into all the documents. We have gone
over them in great detail. Mr. Horwitz has gone over them
and, in fact, Steve Gardiner. Do you know Steve Gardiner,
       by the way?
       A. The name is familiar. I would have to look at his
       face.

  Q. He has been a witness.
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you remember that the Attorneys General were threatening
       legal action?
       A. Again, I am not a lawyer, so I do not know what,
specifically. They certainly did not like the ads.

MR. MORRIS: I do not want to go through the exact schedule of
the ads. I think that has been gone over and things have
       been said.

MS. STEEL: Can I just ask, what is "Parade"?
       A. It is a magazine.

  Q. What kind of magazine?
       A. I believe it is inserted into newspapers. It is sort
of what you would call an "insert".
