MR. MORRIS: Birthday parties. On page 151 there is a whole
thing there about birthday parties. Sorry, page 150, as
well: "Everybody loves a birthday party"; and McDonald's
Corporation of course makes profits out of birthday
parties, do they not?
A. Yes, they do.

Q. Is that why they like them so much?
A. No. I think children like birthday parties; at least,
my children do.

Q. Why do McDonald's like birthday parties so much?
A. Because it can be an enjoyable experience for the
children who are involved, and it is a potential for
additional sales in the restaurant.

Q. It says here, in page 150 under "birthday parties", the
second half of that second sentence:

"Put them together at McDonald's and you've got an
important way to generate added sales and profits....."

So it is an important way to generate added sales and
profits, is it not? It is not just like a side issue?
A. It is one of the ways to generate additional sales and
profits; that is correct.

Q. It is an important way, is it not?
A. Yes.

Q. On page 151, internal page 151, second to last paragraph on
the left-hand side:

"Suggestive-selling food to adults attending the party -
sold at menu-board prices - will expand the party's sales
and profitability."

So are you taking advantage of the parents as well as the
children, Mr. Green?
A. If the adult who is visiting the party would like to
have some food as well, that would be great, and we would
suggest that to them.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Whether you are taking advantage of the
parent must depend on the parent's attitude, must it not?
Not everyone is lucky enough to live in a home where they
have bags of space if they want to get their child's
friends in for a party.
A. In the United States, there are a number places where
people can go to have birthday parties outside of the
home. They are very convenient, and they offer a way where
Mum does not have any muss or fuss and she can have one
total package. This is just one area that McDonald's
provides that service, as well as many others.

MR. MORRIS: Under "Store Tours" on page 151, bottom right hand,
the first point, in italics in the second paragraph,
is: "Store tours are a long-term sales builder." Is that
