Day 044 - 02 Nov 94 - Page 13

person who I report to, who is the Executive Vice President
of Marketing and the Chief Marketing Officer.

  Q. What is his name?
       A. His name is Paul Schrage: S-C-H-R-A-G-E.

  Q. The meetings which you attend, the international meetings,
they are responsible for the international strategy, are
       they?
       A. No. Each country really develops their own specific
strategy, but within the context, obviously, of an overall
broad strategy that marketing has for McDonald's.

  Q. Does McDonald's care about the public's health?
       A. Certainly.

  Q. Do you have nutritionists working with the Corporation?
       A. Yes, we do.

  Q. When you promote your food, are you aware of health-related
       issues?
       A. I am not exactly sure what you mean.

  Q. You say that you care about the public's health, and your
job is to promote McDonald's food?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you promote it irresponsibly, without caring, or do you
promote it with some advice and awareness from those in the
Corporation that are responsible for that?
       A. From a strict advertising point of view, we promote our
food by the attributes that the food has, yes.

  Q. Do you get advice on that? There are people in the
Corporation who pass on their advice to your section?
       A. Yes. The nutritionists who you talked about are
primarily advising those who develop the food and produce
the food and, except in the case where we are using
advertising to talk about the nutritional value of the
food, those people do not necessarily advise the marketing
       effort.

  Q. No. But within the corporate ethos, there is some kind of
       collective responsibility, is there?
       A. It certainly would want to be a good company, yes.

  Q. It is part of McDonald's policy to care about the public
health, which would inform all departments; is that
       correct?
       A. Certainly, as I understand, it is part of McDonald's
policy to ensure that anyone who wants to know about the
content of our food and the nutritional value of our food
       can have that information, yes.

  Q. No, I did not say that. You have said that the Corporation
cares about the health of the public. Does that inform all
the departments of the Corporation, from the top to the
bottom and sideways, or is that just something that a
department can take or leave, depending on how it feels
       like it?
