Day 031 - 05 Oct 94 - Page 34
MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have 31.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, I have 81 and 33 and nothing else.

MS. STEEL: 32 and 33 were handed together.

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, may I also make this clear, that I have
two separate documents and I suspect they are different
things. It is awfully difficult to follow
evidence-in-chief. No doubt I can spend some time later
on sorting it out. One is called The Scottish Diet,
Report of a Working Party to the Chief Medical Officer for
Scotland, which has pages 32 and 33; the other is called
Scotland's Health, A Challenge To Us All, which is marked
by Professor Crawford in enclosure No. 3, December 1993;
that has pages 81, then a repeat of page 33 of the
previous document.

MS. STEEL: It is the same document. The black cover is the
front cover and the following page is the next page in the
book.

MR. RAMPTON: It would help (while this is going on) if I could
have a copy of the actual document so I am not trying to
sort out, as I am listening, to what it is that is being
referred to.

MS. STEEL: We have already said there is a copy available in
court.

MR. RAMPTON: This should have been served some considerable
time ago.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: The black cover is an outer cover to the
white sheet, is it?

MS. STEEL: Yes. It may be easiest if we put them together in
the bundles.

THE WITNESS: My intention was that the black cover should give
you the title and provenance of the Scotland's Health
document, and that pages 32, 33 and 81, which had relevant
comments on it, all came from this one document.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Just pause there.
A. They should all be stuck together in a way.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am going to put the white cover
immediately behind the black one. I have two sheets of
pages 32 and 33.
A. And 81.

MS. STEEL: Do you want to go through the parts -- take it in
order -- that you think are important to draw to the
attention of the court?
A. Well, I think it is worth drawing your attention to
the fact that this group of experts felt it appropriate to
quote the World Health Organisation's Report on Diet,
Nutrition and Prevention of Chronic Diseases in 1990, the
implication being that they concurred with the World
