connected with the issues and the background would, I dare
say, take up these matters from the proceedings of the
conference if they felt it was necessary.

We ourselves actually got involved with the Royal Navy
over problems they were experiencing in actual practice of
the change in style in warfare and the impact that
       nutrition had it.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Is there anything more you want from that?
If I may say so, we are having quite a lot of pauses
today. Do not pause to read it through. I have read the
relevant bits anyway. You are on publications of various
bodies which you say should have some authority. Is there
any other one you want to refer to?

MS. STEEL: I wanted to turn to page 3 of the second statement
now and go through the ones that are listed there.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Very well. What do you want to look at
       next?

MS. STEEL: I do not think we have the first one there. I am
not sure if that is one of the ones that Geoffrey Cannon
       was providing copies of.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Cannon referred to the chief medical
officer for Scotland. I have that report and Professor
       Crawford has referred to it.

MS. STEEL: I will leave out the first one because I do not
think we have a copy, but Professor Crawford could confirm
that is what the guidelines were.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: You have not got the National Cancer
       Institute USA Dietary Guidelines?

  MS. STEEL: No.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Not yet. Leave that over then.

MS. STEEL: OK. Going on to the British Nutrition
Foundation's Task Force on unsaturated fatty acids, have
you a copy of that, of the relevant page you wanted to
       refer to?
       A. I think I quote from it.

  Q. You have quoted from the part you want.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: We have not got a copy of that here either.

MS. STEEL: There is a copy here. As a matter of interest,
who are the British Nutrition Foundation?
       A. The British Nutrition Foundation is an organisation
which was created by the food industry in the United
Kingdom with the aim of advising the food industry and
promoting research on food and nutrition. And also,
I believe, it has as its aims, or certainly does advise
government and attempts to arrange conferences to discuss
matters of importance so that they can be published and
