Day 009 - 08 Jul 94 - Page 07
1 if I could, just one minute further, because there is no
mathematical calculations that are purely quantitative
2 when you try to measure the impacts in those areas. There
are quantification numbers that do come out of each of
3 those areas, but there are many other considerations that
are not quantifiable; they are not mathematical. So,
4 therefore, you combine the quantitative information along
with the qualitative information in those four criteria.
5
Q. Your job is environmental affairs; is that correct?
6 A. Yes.
7 Q. Are there other branches of the corporation who deal with
the other three matters? Obviously, costs and
8 availability must be a business -- that is just purely a
financial matter. There is a department that deals with
9 overall financial matters, yes?
A. Let me -----
10
Q. I do not mean just with packaging?
11 A. Let me explain a little bit.
12 MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do you mean there is an equivalent,
Mr. Langert, for customer impact, operational, efficiency
13 and cost and availability?
14 MR. MORRIS: Yes?
A. In the broad sense, yes. Let me explain how we
15 approach that. However, each one of those components is
each of our jobs, but there is a director of accounting
16 and finance. There is director of operations. We have a
director of customer satisfaction. We do have people,
17 their expertise would be that subject matter, but each
person -- in the way we handle environmental affairs, and
18 it is the way we handle other subject matters -- each
person in management needs to be also knowledgeable. They
19 work on other areas of the business. When I work on
environmental affairs I am at the same time gathering
20 information on cost impact, operational impact etc..
21 Environmental affairs is not just my job, environmental
affairs -- part of my job is to integrate it into the
22 other positions of the company into what they do, so when
they make decisions they are gathering information
23 relating to environmental impact.
24 Q. Right. But the company obviously feels that, or does the
company feel that the reason it has an environmental
25 affairs officer is because they take that area of balance
seriously?
26 A. Yes, we feel that we need someone like -----
27 Q. A specialist?
A. Someone like myself. I would not necessarily call it
28 a specialist. I would call it somebody that can spend all
their time with focus for the company, correct.
29
Q. I do not know what you called it, "customer affairs" --
30 how long have McDonald's had a customer affairs director
or department?
