The Teamsters Union is trying to organize 62 workers at McDonald's restaurant near Montreal. If they succeed, it will be the first McDonald's outlet in Canada to unionize. Other attempts, in Quebec and Ontario, have failed. Eighty per cent of the outelet's employees have signed up for the union. Young employees at the fast food restaurant say that local management requires them to work 30 minutes ahead of starting time, without pay. Longtime employees say they work for little more than minimum wage, and are asked to do unsafe jobs outside their assigned responsibilities. |
