Not always - One manager at the store I work at got very flustered when I pointed out that he was legally obliged to give me a half-hour break (minimum) as my shift was longer than five hours. Allyou need to do is point out that it's the law and they'll give you a break, so tell you daughter that - hopefully she'll stand up for herself if she knows her rights.
