Your points are quite valid. Many people merely take the negative point of view. However, their expereinces cannot be discounted. As a manager, you have a more hands-on dealing with the business and the setup behind it. I worked at the Bendigo store for 20 months, finishing earlier this year after graduating from Uni there. I have to say that I had both positive and negative experiences there. You may be aware of the franchisee within the Bendigo area. I have to say that he was one of the most ruthless, self-centred heartless individuals I've ever come across. And while the profits on paper suggest a thriving business and the skill of himas an operator, this is a falacy. Your points regarding Maccas charitable work leave me a little cold. You say they do great work kids, those a little less fortunate than the rest of us. You've got to be kidding yourself. McHappy day is based solely on the sale of product and nothing else. So to entice the clientele, they throw streamers, play happy music, and have Ronald apeear telling people to buy Big Macs, when infact the purpose of the day is to cover the donations of every dollar from the Big Macs sold to the chartities buy selling other lines of product to cover profit margins. It's a lie beyond belief, and many people, including yourself it seems, are not awake to it.
As for the 15yo getting a job, that is fantastic. It's great to see young people at an early age, displining themselves financially so that down the track, the skills of monay management from a part time job may help them. But that disappears out the window when they dont get paid for extra time spent at work. The idea of paying a person for only 75 minutes after closing time is against basic business principle, as well as being against the law. And I've been on the receiving end of it, so I know what it's like.
Nicole, I'm not a tall poppie basher. I simply see the facts, and thfacts are that your employer are money hungry, self indulging, manipulative, and hell bend on profit above all else. You have the benefit of being in a manager's uniform. But imagine the situation from the 15yo kid you see at work today, who justs see it as a job, and doesn't kno about the shit that goes on. Maybe you can open your eyes to it soon.
: I have been a manager at a McDonald's store for the past three years and both full time and casual on and off since I was in High School. All your information, although interesting, is very biased. You have concentrated on all the negative points and images of McDonald's, both as a fast food restuarant and as a corporation. I wonder if you would ever contemplate the positive sides, such as the charities that they fund, or the sponsership they perform constantly, both Nationally and in each local community? I also wonder if you have ever seen the face of a fifteen year old who had just been told they have been accepted for a postion in a McDonald's store? Without the extensive jobs McDonald's provides, many young Australians would be denied the training oppurtunities and income they get from their casual jobs. And let's not forget the scolarships each store nominates their workers for every four months. No, I guess it's easier to cut down a highly visable company and use their weaknesses rather than their accomplishments.
