I can totally understand where you are coming from - believe it or not. I come from the UK and worked for McDonald's for eleven months before walking out (in a very attention-seeking manner, I might add).

And during that time (1997-1998) there wasn't even a minimum wage in Britain - I was working for a pathetic £2.50/hour (practically pennies).

To begin with, I didn't mind because it was my own money and I liked the job. But then (about two months into employment) I started losing my breaks just so that the managers could go outside for a smoke. It didn't matter about the rest of us, so long as the managers were okay. You know?

I ended up becoming a Lobby Host just so that I could get out of the kitchen and front counter - away from all the stress and managers. But that is what I thought.

I started to get pulled onto the tills - leaving the lobby to pile up with trays and rubbish with no one to clean it - then I got disiplined for leaving the lobby in the first place! Can you believe it?! I was furious...

Just before I left, I started running the Party Programme. This made life a bit easier (not much, just a bit). But in the end, I couldn't take any more and handed in my resignation. It was accepted and I left. The next day I got a phone call asking me to come in and do a party - and gullible me did. Then it happened again, and again until I just lost the rag and walked into the busy restuarant one day, through my uniform onto the counter, turned tail and marched out of the restuarant. Most of the customers knew me and (as I heard later) were wondering what made me leave.

Sorry to ramble on a bit, but believe me when I say that you are far better not working for - or eating at - McDonald's.
