You must still be in a job that annoys you, Qx, because sometimes in the past you posted here when you had the right arsehole ! But it seems recently you are on better form...!Alienation is a big part of it. I certainly felt like a small cog in a part of a big relentless machine. Now I am out, I feel amazing. I was surprised that I didn't miss it one little bit. McD's has it's own culture, and I don't need to tell you that when you have that in common with people it is a strong bond and not easily broken. But the situation of working for a franchisee cut me off from the corporate culture to a certain degree. Although I had been with McD's for 8 years, it was unnervingly easy to leave, once I hade made the decision that I no longer belonged there.
I can hear a lot of McD people crying out loud that I didn't belong there with my attitude etc -and maybe they are right !- but I now pity them, because they are having the wool pulled over their eyes every time they go into work. It doesn't really matter what you achieve at the end of the day. If it is not profit related, then you are regarded as a liability by the company. Noone should fool themselves that the situation is anything other than that. If they really believ that they are valuable as an individual then think again. Even training in McD's is looked upon as 'return on investment'. Except I have decided to reap the return on their investment. STORE MANAGERS - YOU'RE SKILLS ARE IN DEMAND ! TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE THEY WILL BE APPRECIATED !!!!!!!
Maybe I am still in shock that I actually did what my subconscious has been telling me to do for a long time, but what the heck, I feel great, and my life is my own again.
