Qx: Corporate loyalty is rather cultish in some aspects. Do some critical enquiring before you come at us with that again.

McDW: You're right on one thing, i don't know much bout unions, but i do have friends who belong to them in their company and they say they're not worth it, they ignore opinions of their members and haven't a clue as to where their dues go or what they go towards, infact the employees voted to drop the union..the only thing a union is good for is job securitity, but in todays society, theres no such thing.
Qx: First of all there's a difference between unions and not all are the same. Just talking to friends who've voted to decertify a union due to lack of or no representation doesn't really qualify as the be all and end all of the struggle for working people's rights. I've been in lousy unions while two-carding as an IWW member and I know that engaging in union activites can make a difference even if you have a "business agent" instead of a fellow worker. Of course there are absolutely bogus unions like the Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) which signs contracts with companies and then announces that they represent a company's workers when in many instances the workers didn't even know this was even happening.
So watch out for what any particular union says and what they do. As an IWW member I've met many a labour skate and it can get wierd. I know one "business agent" who wears tons of gold jewelry, make $70,ooo a year in salary and gets into the stock market via the Internet right from his union office. He gets uptight whenever I drop in because he knows damn well that I don't get paid for being a Wobbly and there's no way I'll wear gaudy gold jewelry much less engage in false capitalism.
You see I could be like that. I could get a $40,000 a year job as an organizer for the SEIU but I won't because there's a principle involved and it's called direct democracy. Just saying that there's no job security nowadays doesn't make life any better. It's a sign of surrender and future generations will reap the whirlwind. Corporations are top-down totalitarian structures and many unions have taken that organizational approach also. It's destructive of democracy and what results is people saying that unions have no place and that there's no job security.
