Notes from Canadian neighbour

Hi everyone,

Well, I have all sorts of credentials, but no company will hire me because I have no experience. That's the tradeoff here in Canada. No experience = No job. Wal-Mart has given me my first chance and as my first anniversary at Wal-Mart approaches on July 10, 1999, I am very grateful. Wal-Mart has a very friendly atmosphere and working as part of a team is excellent. As a peak time associate, I think that it sucks that we don't get any benefits. If a slip and break my back, all Wal-Mart will say is "sorry bud" and let me go.

As a cashier, I have it pretty darn easy. The hours go by quickly, and with a lot of practice, I have become the best cashier in the district. My most recent evaluation was outstanding -- a 4.7 out of 5. I have gotten 3 raises in the last year and I love it. If you are a sales associate at Wal-Mart, I can see why you're mad. You have to look over more than 1 department a lot of the time, put up with all the rude customers, and "zone" forever. Try cashiering. It takes less than 10 customers to get used to and it's fucking easy!

I agree with some of the people who hate Wal-Mart. My brother works for a grocery chain and his union sent out hate letters about how Wal-Mart Supercenters are sucking away all the grocery sales in the US. While there are no Supercentres or Sam's Club in Canada, they are coming soon. Wal-Mart is becoming like Microsoft. Wouldn't all you present associates love to become part of a DYNASTY????

To anyone who sees this, please respond. I'm anxious to hear what you have to say.
