: I have a question about diet coke, I hope someone has the answer to. I was recently drinking coke at school and a friend of mine told me never to drink it again. When I asked why, she said that she had heard that when the coke went above a certain tempature, the coke turned into fermalidahide. Is this true? I appreciate anyone's comments on this.: Thanks a bunch! Please e-mail me if you have any information.
Sad but true. It's made by Monsanto. "Ant sting poison" Not even bugs will drink it......try it.

McSpotlight: The chemical in question is formaldehyde, (a.k.a. formalin) and has the formula CH2O ; it's the simplest carbohydrate.
As to being a poison, well, it depends; it doesn't actually destroy tissue; it just encases it in a polymer film; which stops it reacting with other bits of the body; which is fatal, but also preserves the tissue indefinitely (which is why it is used for preserving things).
You can find a useful EPA page on formaldehyde here
None.
