Dan:
: Ofcourse they do things for their own benefit, they are running a business. Why would anyone run a business for someone else's benefit? EC:
The original purpose of incorporating was to provide a public benefit. If you want to be a sole proprietor, then that's one thing. If you are incorporated, you are "supposed" to serve the public good. Read the link I provided for more information.
And a more important question to ask is why should people toil for a fat cat's benefit, while they make the billions of dollars for the fat cat and receive just enough money to keep them continually working for someone? Why is it that they who work the hardest, get the least reward for it, and they who work the least get the most? Do you think this is fair?
Dan:
Then, when they do, do something for charity you wont give them credit. Unfortunately, you cant have it both ways. They do have an image they want to create/uphold so why not make their charity known. Why is it only charitable if its done annonymously? Whether the charity is done for charity's sake or the sake of advertisement, it is still charity.
EC:
No it is not. It is calculated for return on investment, and tax considerations. There is no charity in it. It is purely image driven. They will not spend (or give) a dime that does not return more than that dime. And it is corporations like this who pay starvation wages that create the need for charity.
Dan:
: I really enjoyed the hundreds or thousands of medicines line. As long as we are speculating, I'll speculate that there are hundreds or thousands of new diseases hidding in these rain forrests. NO, I am not supporting destroying the rainforests but why is it that the rainforest only has the potential for good? Everything about the undiscovered/unstudied rainforests is not by definition good.
EC:
Bio-diversity is nature's way (god's way, if you prefer) of coping with potential changes to environmental conditions. Replacing the most bio-diverse area on the planet with a monocultural bovine for private gain is not only folly, it is criminal. As far as the disease comment, you must be listening to too much corporate medical propaganda. Most of the strains of bacteria that are becoming a problem are from over-prescribing of antibiotics, and from manmade causes like factory farming.
Dan:
: The cornering the market bit is even more humorous. Please, think what it would take to do that and the laws that currently exist. And why is it deadly? Who is going to die if they do corner the market? Is there going to be a fast food world war. Will we have a worldwide draft? If so Im signing up with the Taco Bell division. Please Please Please explain deadly. Are they going to be able to convert most people to a pure McDonalds diet? Are they going to be able to single handedly destroy every inch of rain forrest?
EC:
If you cannot comprehend the idea of monopoly as a danger, I don't know what I can do to convince you. But I'll try. If there was one big company, you would either have to work for this company, or starve, no? Is starvation deadly? Ok, let's think if there were 20 big companies, all supporting the same politicians and governments, and they acted as one, the same thing would apply. How about 100? same thing, if they all act the same, have the same crummy pay and conditions, and blacklist anyone who doesn't toe the line. As far as these 'laws' you tout, who do you think writes these laws? (Hint: see campaign financing)
Dan:
: Finally people that work at McDonalds get paid what they deserve (within a few dollars). This is not a career path (no matter how many people wish to make it so). It would be nice if everyone could live the wealthy life style but that isnt the way the world works (period, end of story).
EC:
$6 an hour for working their asses off, while the stockholders sip champagne on a yacht. And this is what they deserve? It is not a career choice only because it is such a shitty job with shitty pay, and there are plenty of jobs like that.
Organize and fire your boss!
