The charities that you describe are puerly advertising and public relations. If they were really so benevolent, they would donate anonymously, rather than calling it the Ronald McDonald House, so that they get advertising benefits whenever someone parrots the name of it. They also get tax credits for such "donations" and every dollar they invest in this type of public relations is calculated for retun on investment, just like when they try to cut labor costs and other costs of production. It all boils down to dollars and cents (pounds, schillings and pence). They don't do ANYTHING that doesn't result in an anticipated profit.
