It was a statement. It was offensive to one of the readers, thus his counterpost - he used the statement "according to your argument...". So yes, no debate took place. If the original poster had said "I think this but I may be wrong, I'd welcome comments..." then it would be a debate. As it was, the original was just shooting his mouth off, so the "bugger off then" response was entirely appropriate. It's a common mistake to assume that assertion equals argument. As a scientist, you should know better. Prove your statement or disprove mine - I'm a space physicist currently working the networking industry. But please do so via @mail - McSpotlight has not very much disk space and a whole heap of mail to wade through.

Oh, and please don't use the word "common sense". It's like "the real world" - a phrase people use to justify their assertions on the ground that the Universe works their way and no other.
