As someone who works at a McDonalds, I really resent these comments. Our store is run by well-trained, customer-oriented managers; and the crew is hardly a bunch of washed-up high school dropouts. It's hard to be chipper when condescending customers such as yourself come up to the counter to harp about the service during a rush, but we paste on smiles anyway because we don't have a choice. The key to getting respect from other fast-food servers (or anyone else for that matter), is giving it; remember that the next time you feel like degrading the people who serve you. None.
