i recommend from a purely business perspective a book called 'behind the arches' written by john f. love (bantam books), but be aware that it's a very one sided account ie. up mcdonald's arse. for a general read have a look at george ritzer's 'the mcdonaldization of society' or his more modern 'the mcdonaldization thesis'
