: Something I will tell you is that Taco Bell usually offers you a way out of the drive-thru, while McDonald's usually keeps you in a narrow lane with no way out. If you change your mind, you'll have a long wait ahead of you. Perhaps all the employees will come look at you.

Morris: Yes, the employees will take a gander at you if you leave the drive-through without ordering, but an "exit ramp" in the drive-through is neither added nor omitted deliberately. It depends on the size and slope of the lot.

For instance, if the lot is tiny, or if the drive-through was added after the place was built, I've seen some drive-through lanes that force drivers to maneuver a crazy "figure eight" pattern to get to the speaker, then to the window. If the lot is hilly, the drive-through traffic is often funnelled along a retaining wall, since fast feeders build their buildings as cheaply as possible. It'd cost too much to level the lot, while keeping handicapped access laws in mind. Therefore, don't try to pass in the drive-through lane, lest your car scrape the wall, or better yet, topple over the wall onto the pavement below.
