: : McSpotlight: "Does the fact that little Timmy jumped in the lake make it OK for you to jump in the lake?"

The argument, of course, is not about 'jumping in the lake' (I believe this is called "begging the question"). The analogy would be more like, "Timmy swims in the lake, so does his family, and a great many other people. They all seem to enjoy themselves; what, then, is all this about the lake being poisoned?" To which, of course, your response would be to prove that the lake posed hidden dangers to these unsuspecting people. The point may be advanced through all sorts of emotional appeals - this does not, however, help your claim that the moderator is unbiased and reasonable. Which is, of course, my point.

: McSpotlight: The original poster was utilizing a very very old argument; name x people did it, so it must be right. As for making a profit, we have more serious oppositions to McD's; they make a profit by exploiting their workforce, exploiting children, cruelty to animals and opposing the freedom of expression.

Thus, the need to show employment as 'exploitation' (Marxism) as well as advertizing directed at children (the evils of capitalism), the processing of meat as 'cruelty to animals' ('Green' ideology), and the attempt to squelch what to them must appear a smear campaign as 'opposing the freedom of expression' (this being simple politics - we are good, they are bad). To which I reply, with none to subtle a grin, "Whatever."

McDonald's will continue to hawk burgers. McSpotlight will continue to generate mileage by (negative) association. I am provided with an amusing bulletin board on which to post my rants. Everyone seems to be happy.

Ah, what a wonderful world we live in.
