In Australia, McDonalds is not under the auspices of the Retail Workers Union, but they still don't go too far under union awards as this will cause employees to unionise.

The minimum wage in Australia is $7.70, comparable to the Canadian pay rate. The purchasing parity power of our dollar is about comparable to yours,as is the cost of living, actually -remember Australia is basically an agricultural country as well.

Currency rate for the Aust. Dollar is 65 US cents, owing to the SE asian financial crisis.
