Man suing McDonald's franchise in Canada ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland (AP) -- A man who allegedly swallowed a straight pin
after eating a McChicken sandwich in Newfoundland is suing the owner-operator of a
McDonald's restaurant in St. John's.
In a statement filed with Newfoundland Supreme Court, Francis Jordan of
Ferryland, Newfoundland, claims he bought the sandwich at the McDonald's franchise
last November and ate it in the restaurant.
According to court documents, Jordan experienced pain and trouble breathing and
was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where X-rays revealed he had swallowed a
straight pin.
Jordan's lawyer, Tom Williams, said Wednesday it took five ays for the pin to pass
through Jordan's system.
In his claim, Jordan accuses the company that runs the restaurant, King Foods Ltd.,
and its employees of negligence in the preparation of the sandwich and is suing for
damages. No dollar amount was disclosed.
King Foods has yet to file a defense. Owner Keith King did not return telephone
messages.
