: I agree, school does SUCK.Hell! Oh, yeah, school does suck. As a teacher, I feel caught in the middle of a rock and hard place. First, there are the students that want to run the classroom, and, then, there is the system, which puts too many students in a classroom without strong enough rules or support for most teachers to be effective. Now, the students, are human. They are lazy. They want an education without having to work for it. They want entertainment and fun. They don't think about their future. So they constantly battle the teacher for control of the classroom. The majority of halfway mature students have to put up with the 30% of these so-called rebels. Then, the system, is screwed up. The administrators are a bunch of political climbers that could never teach themselves and avoid the classroom like the plague. The higher up in the system you go the less contact there is with the classroom. Teachers are loaded up with students coming and going all the time so that teaching them becomes very frustrating. They send teachers mixed messages. One day they pressure you to pass everyone; the next day they want you to raise standards. How can you grade 135 essays or even drill and kill exercises quickly enough to give the students feedback, have enough time to analyze the results, and design lessons to meet their needs, and also be entertaining and active lessons? Especially when you have three different lesson preps?
Yeah, public education sucks, and the public needs education. It's time to tear down the walls (they're falling apart anyway) and redesign the system. It's going to be a educational revolution based on technology, sociology, and psychology. And, common sense! Let students that hate high school go to work instead! The world needs janitors, and it makes no sense to support them when they are just picking their noses and seats instead of going with the seating chart of society. College should only be offered to hard workers and high scorers on intelligence tests; the people that deserve to go. Not the upper-class spoiled brats that have parents that can afford it. And, education does not have to be so boring! Technology can teach history by role-playing games instead of boring textbooks and lectures! Video instruction by the best teachers in the country. Special effects to enliven the presentations. Video, music, et. al. Has anyone played "Civilization", "Age of Empires", or "Imperialism"? It's great! The vocabulary programs out there are fantastic! Yes, it's true, public schools must change. And it's not just the teaching of the lessons, it's the raising up of children that needs to be improved.
