I am a black wearing (when not wearing photoprint tights and blue lippy), music with anarchic lyrics (early manic street preachers, chumbawamba, marilyn manson, etc.) listening, internet using, gothy person, who has recently had to listen to my so-called friends ask me about my attitude to guns and violence, and people less close to me behave as though I had a kalashnikov down me bra, every time I went out all dressed up. Why are the press allowed to get away with articles that mean people like me get subjected to this? I read in one paper, a recommendation to all parents of gothy kids to crowbar into our locked cupboards, look under our beds, investigate our internet use, and generally invade our privacy. Luckily I have supportive parents, who are proud of my dress and individuality, but there are people out there who aren't so lucky. I have the right to go down the street, wearing what I want, without being looked at as though I was a mass murderer. I am a pacifist, I do not believe in violence, and although what happened in the US was a tragedy, those kids had mental problems, not gothy ones. I am proud, and I think that every gothy person should be proud, of our style and strength. We are not all hitler loving potential mass murderers!
