The usage of what we call sweatshops is a basic disrespect of human rights and proclamation that human greed is alive and well, and all for what purpose?. I am not a Christian bible-thumper, but I will quote a very fitting phrase from the bible: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
The manufacturers of these clothing materials are making fortunes. How much money does a person need in this world? I saw a documentary on American television that put the owner of Nike as the 6th richest person in the USA, and he made a lot of that fortune from the misfortune of others.
We know that this is wrong; however, we also know that greed is a basic composite of human nature. Further, until we admit that this is a problem, then there is no problem. Lastly, as long as people of the world buy the clothes of these manufacturers, then manufacturers will continue to make millions of dollars at the expense of the misfortunate. Everyone knows that it is the bottom line on the income tax form that matters, and we futher know that morals can't be taxed.
In summary, due to their greed, and due to the American laziness and don't-care attitudes, the poor peoples of the world are suffering. However, it is very comforting to know that the way these workers are treated is wrong, but we can make it right by saying "if it weren't for these companies, then what would they have?"
You know, about all that one can do is you just have to love it when it is like this. However, there is hope. In America, people won't admit that there is a problem until it gets lower than whale you-know-what, and folks, this problem has sunk just about as low as it can go; that is why Americans are now starting to raise a voice and say STOP IT!
I won't wear logos of any manufacturer "THAT I KNOW OR HAVE HEARD" to be participating in this mistreatment of other peoples. My last submission is that these manufacturers could make fortunes and treat their workers well -- America is a good example of that fact.
