Amen to the previous Message

Amen to the writer of the previous message over the Debate of Sweatshops in local third world economies, and how this affects our economy. I would like to add that I have to laugh at the notion that since the good ol' USA used to have sweatshops and now we are the world's economic power, then it must be the way to grow a countries economy. Start small and by the way, let us reap the rewards of your misfortune until you get enough cash in your poor hands to actually demand rights that all human beings involved in our world society should be entitled to. I think the reason we here in the USA have such a hard time acknowledging the completely unethical nature of Sweatshops for the purpose of supplying the world with inexpensive goods is that we are the main benifactor of this unethical behavior (of course, along with the owners of the sweatshops, our willing accomplices). We basically get it all,
1) cheap goods to satisfy our uneding appetite for a "bargain" price on everything we "must" buy, and
2) Our IRA's, 401K's and mutual fund portfolios run over with better earnings from the companies that use sweatshops to ensure the highest possible return of $$$$$$(not just a good return, it has to be the highest possible return)
THerefore we have the most to lose when others in developing countries actually might recieve decent, humane wages, healthcare and local government, etc. It seems that the supposed Judeo-Christian ethics that this beautiful country was built on goes out the window when it comes to our pocketbooks and greed. Now, no offense to either of those religious beliefs, please. But I do make offense to the notion that we really hold those beliefs to heart as a people. Come one, we are adult enough to realize the only ethic we really adhere to is the ethic of Self Preservation and Justification of our Actions to get what we want.
Sad to say, but human suffering in some form will always exist. Its just a shame when we know about it, but it makes to much economic sense to stop it. Its also sad to see that every place on earth that may in a former time have been self suffient( they made it this far before joining the world economy) has to drag itself through the mud to our feet and beg to be acknowledged as full fledged human beings that can make use money before we will allow them to recieve even the most basic of rights and dignity.
