(Came up with this during the weekend. It's meant to be a reply to "Pied Beauty" by Gerard Manley Hopkins, so if the style seems a little old-fashioned, it's because it's replying to something written last century. So ner. Oh and it's not specifically about McD's.) Gideon.
The Trial.
Sickness and pain, that blight of cruelty,
For all the dying rivers, the dead, sullen skies
All are the work of foolish cunning, that low wit
Which steals vigour from gracious Earth
Maiming, draining, life ended for pleasure or sloth
That slow judging of useless and corrupt and grim
If a witness Humanity still needs,
Deliver it!, the rapacity, greed on greed!
Defend, those specks of piety, honesty, truth
Let prosecute, the blameless, gaping tongues of wounds!
Blame us.
Scarlet blood to the shrouding snow still clings
Glory be to God for dappled things!
None.
