The clouds emptied, and torrents
Of water gushed like tears
Across the face of Mother Earth
Cutting deep wrinkles in her skin.
These were her tears,
For she was sadThen arcing sparks of lightning
Danced across the sky
From the gnashing of her teeth
And thunder sounded as Mother Earth
Cried out in agony. And Mother Earth quaked with pain
Heaving and twisting again and again
As though to shake off the mites
That were annoying her, destroying her
The mites called men.
For she was angrySoon Mother Earth was still once more
Trees reappeared, and wind
Rustled softly in the leaves.
The sun shone warmly through the clouds
Mother Earth was at peace again
The mites were gone.
