: The following is a poem from some time before 1991 - five whole
: years before the present crisis. Apart from dealing with the
: B.S.E. issue, it hints at the progressively frankenstein attitude
: we are taking in terms of animal production; BST is the
: genetically engineered growth hormone given to cows to increase
: their yield and PST is intended to speed up pig growth.: with hope

: Wrangles for the EEC
: Is it true

: Breasts on boys
: And brain disease?
: Is it there
: Or is it not?
: In the milk
: And cooking pot?
: Coming soon now

: Madelaine Munro - Fe Fi Fo Fum (Poems To Fight Giants)
SEPT 1998
Stumbling across this by chance more than 2 years on, what springs to mind is how even more terribly prophetic this seems now and, sadly, how even more 'progressively frankenstein' mankind is; not only in terms of food production but worryingly we're taking those further steps towards genetic modification and cloning.
I can't be the only person standing scared beyond belief in the face of such scientific 'breakthroughs' as Dolly sheep and GMO foods...can I?
Surely it isn't a sign of being a luddite to wonder whether we (humankind) really know where to draw the line with experimentation, exploitation and reconstruction...of genes, plants, animals, people.
Excuse me for the tangent, but suddenly the world of 'Bladerunner' seems a less and less distant place.
But still in hope,
