- Capitalism and Alternatives -After all, the existing situation is 'inarguable'. Or so I've heard. In Reply to: Central America posted by Nikhil Jaikumar on October 18, 1999 at 21:33:16:
Both the revolutionary groups in El Salvador and Nicaragua committed terrible crimes as well, albeit for the 'revolution'. This included a massacre of Indians (which I recall you, at one time, justifying as 'necessary'), the mining of election sites (the revolutionary El Salvadoran FMLN decided that the elective process wasn't sufficiently 'fair'), the random bombings of dams, gas stations, businesses, etc. (as advocated by that famous state capitalist, Che Guevara), and so on. The guerrillas in these areas have shown little compuntion in initiating battles in the cities, then blaming the resulting civilian casualties on the government. Likewise, they've found the sanctuaries offered by Christian churches a most successful tool for hiding large quantities of munitions and similar 'humanitarian' aid. As is common in conflicts of this sort, brutality is met with brutality; from what I've read on the subject, provoking the indigenous government to such acts is exactly the point. None.
