Isn't it more democratic to allow the people themselves to decide what they want to do for a living? Some guys are happy being taxi cab drivers. I know some of them. I couldn't stand doing it myself, but hey, what ever spins your prop.
So, what about the freedom of the individual to decide what he wants to do?
The other thing about this scheme is that it seems that the Army is used to pick potatoes at harvest time (as was done and probably still is being done in Russia. Or the mass evacuation of people from cities to agricultural areas, as was done in Cambodia. And even the exporting of people from cities to the country side for the sake of ideology, as was done in China.
There's also the practical question of expertise. Do you know how long it takes to complete an apprenticeship for the trades? Average is four years. Some longer, some shorter.
How does a person become proficient as a machinist if he is required to go to a farm to harvest turnips? And then is required to fulfill his obligatory duty as office secretary?
What develops is a resentment towards those in authority who keep screwing with your life. And from that a real hatred.
