Industry influence

I recently read a book called “blood and iron” by Peter Mason (highly recommended0. it traces, among other things the history of the arms industry. It raised a very true and thought provoking point; Scientific acheivments often come about due to military lacking. Oxygen masks were only developed so that early fighter pilots could fly higher than their enemies, CB radios were a product of world war 2’s tank battalions. NASA was merely a subshoot of the cold war missile programs. When you think about the power that the Iron industries weilded 50 or so years ago, we can begin to imagine the power of instiutions like the TLC, Bilderberg group, Department of forign affairs, World Bank, IMF and WTO. We can also see how devastating agreements like the GATT are.
