: Hmm, i'd like to have heard them - oe were they just saying the equivalent of "its not faie, ya right" etc

No Gee they wheren't anyone who says that type of thing to me gets the standard response: Socialism = Libertarianism, Egalitarianism, Rationalism & Moralism now your just spouting Moralism get a political education and speak to me then.

Actually the guy I spoke to had a lot to say about the rise of a militant (and given that it's happening in this country probubly paramilitary) Christian Right who have began attacking family planning centres, then this other person was able to give detailed statistics on the division of wealth between the first and third world and wondered, as I do, how the producers, those who engage in the actual production, 90% of creation are such a small, small cost. The thing is the Trots arent about this I almost got into a fight with some in the Uni Bar later because they are all such a pack of unthinking obediant peons, these people empathise with dictatorship, it's like the Borg in Star Trek.

: : and they'll all get packaged and stamped with an authoritarian obediant seal that renders them cannon fodder for some Machavellian elite.

: The elite being the party bosses, not the imagine foe.

No the elite party bosses are the real foe, along with the Capitalists, Socialism's mission statement reads to oppose oppression regardless of the author or victim, I'd like to see Marxism die a death and much of what passes for the Left, at least here in Europe America is a bit better, go with it.

: What do you reckon Lark - do away with political parties and just have representatives of actual people?

That's a good idea but as I said before you'll get people voting for personalities not politics, I'd like to see all "parties" absolutely starved to within an inch of death and then see what way they're feeling. The Trots are a good example of a bad party they exercise what's known as "democratic centralism", which is the opposite of libertarian "immediate recall" it opperates a kind of unquestioned centralism, with very little recourse for actual freethinking members and as Russia demonstrated stifles spontaneuty, innovation and optimisum.

Lets abolish the leadership principle in everyones minds first, like Therou says good government, then no government.
