Woith all due respect, QX, I think that's an oversimplification. texas has a huge Mexican American population. many of these people suffer from poor education, exploitative work conditions, pollution, etcetra, so i woudl think that they would be liberal in general.Qx: If so many of them weren't deemed illegal and allowed to vote you may have a point. As the reality of it is ,they're peons in the real sense of the word. Nothing simple about that.
NJ: Laredo, from what i've heard, is like a third world city. i can't believe that people who suffer from these indignities would vote fro a party that perpetuates them. The 'Anglo' popilation of texas may be on the avergae fairly conservative, but their fraction fo the population is decreasing. As evidence, look at teh town in TExas that recently dcelared itself officially Spanish speaking, and a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Both of these are traditionally 'liberal' ideas.
Qx: As I stated before, if so many of those people weren't deemed illegal they might make one hell of a difference. Keep in mind that many of them are co-opted. Take a look at any group photo of the Bush family. Better yet, go visit Texas and if you get arrested for a dreamed up charge you might be in a position to do an ethnographic study of the Texas Department of Corrections. Nothing like first-hand experience.
