: : 1:The free market/enterprise is based on the assumption of each following their own self interest.: You have previously stated that stateless socialism is also based upon self interest.
SDF: This term "self-interest" is meaningless, whether used by Gee or Red Deathy or anyone, because it tells us nothing about the underlying motivations of behavior. People could behave as violent as the Yanomami, as peacefully as the Semai, as communally as the Congo Pygmies, or as antisocially as the Ik, and they could all be following "self-interest" according to the pompous-asses who think they have discovered something "essential" about "human nature". Classical economists like to say of everyone that they are "maximizing utility" in the same spirit of meaninglessness, as Marshall Sahlins once pointed out, so that even Zen monks who insist on inefficient ways of carrying water (as Gary Snyder tells us they do) are "maximizing utility".
