Just an added note- forgot to mention this. The US did attempt to use military force against the Pol Pot government, during teh Mayaguez incident (cambodia seized an American ship, we attempted to send in a task force). It was a botched operation, killing more Americans than it rescued, but at least it shows taht we weren't Pol Pot's best friend.
